About

about sara keiserBox 185 is a New York City-based fashion design company specializing in one-of-a-kind apparel and accessories. Sara Keiser started Box 185 in 2005 shortly before graduating from Fashion Institute of Technology with a BFA in Fashion Design, as well as two Associates in Patternmaking and Fashion Design Illustration. Though the name Box 185 was her address in South Dakota (RR 1, Box 185) that’s about as rural as Box 185 gets. Box 185 has that new brand of attitude: fun, fresh, and a little frisky.

Box 185 challenges the imagination and the conventional – the leg accessories look like boots; skirts look like pants; pants look like dresses. Each piece is handmade and includes interesting detailing, layered texture, and a fit that is flattering, functional, and fashion forward. Incorporating a variety of different materials including leather, feathers, and fringe, Box 185 creates cocktail dresses, tops, bottoms, arm accessories, earrings, cuffs, and her signature leg accessories, that are both works of art and definite fashion statements.

Designing with the confident, independent, and risk-taking woman in mind, the success of Box 185 can also be attributed to her own personal philosophy: “Nothing comes out of my studio unless it’s something that I love and would definitely wear. I design for myself. I am my customer.” Indeed she is her own customer (and best customer), which is perhaps the greatest testament of any designer.

Box 185 can be found in boutiques across the United States and Canada, as well as Japan.
